MACHEDA HAS NO UNITED CAREER REGRET

According to the Italian striker, the Manchester United experience was a beautiful one for him and that he still has beautiful memories from his time at the Theatre of Dreams.

Federico Macheda burst onto the scene right in front of the Manchester United fans at Old Trafford when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa as a teenager. Macheda unleashed an unstoppable curling shot past Brad Friedel in the Villa goal in the 93rd minute to seal the points for the Red Devils. Manchester United had trailed 2-1 to Villa before Macheda was introduced into the game.

Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo scored the equaliser for Manchester United before Federico Macheda scored in front of the Stretford End for the winning goal of the game to give the Red Devils a crucial win in the race for the Premier League title with arch rivals Liverpool closing in on them.

Macheda had hit the hattrick for the United reserves six days before the moment of glory delivered in his first game for the club. His goal took the Red Devils back to the Premier League summit at the expense of Liverpool. Italian attacker Macheda went on to score again from the bench away to Southampton in his second game for the Manchester United first team as fans began to call for him to play more first team football.

The hype over Macheda skyrocketed after the Villa game but the Italian player was unable to maintain the form that brought a lot of fame his way. He went on six separate loan spells before leaving Manchester United permanently in 2014.
