Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the current coach of Cardiff City but the first managerial job that the Norwegian tactician experienced was back in May of 2008 when he was delegated with the role of coaching the reserve team of Manchester United. Solskjaer was in charge of the reserve squad of Manchester United around the same time that the Italian forward Federico Macheda was in the youth division of the Premier League club.

Macheda performed in the Under-18 side of United and Solskjaer played a huge role in his promotion to the senior team as the Norwegian man was one of the main figures that pulled the strings in order for Macheda to earn his ticket and play in the senior team of Manchester United.

The Italian player could never really live up to his expectations and mostly had to settle with a spot on the sidelines of Old Trafford after being promoted but now that he has been transferred to Cardiff City and reunited with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Macheda wants to display his gratitude for all the help that he received from the Norwegian manager.

Macheda said that one of the main reasons on why he decided to join Cardiff City was because of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he went on saying: “I know the gaffer from our time at Old Trafford and he is exactly the same now as he was then. After he retired from playing he was always going to be a manager and was exceptionally good for me at United. He was unbelievably supportive to me. It’s great to be back with him. He is exactly the same man. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was one of the main reasons I came to this club He played a big part of my decision. The gaffer is a striker and he understands us. He gives the forwards a lot of advice. We all know he was a great player and knows where we have to improve.”
