WHAT NEXT FOR FEDERICO?

David Moyes already has taken some vital decisions in his first week at work as Manchester United manager. He decided not to put Wayne Rooney on sale. He talked to him personally and made sure that he changed his mood on transfer. Then, he made bid for a couple of very talented players (either of those bids is yet to be accepted though).

Now, Moyes has to take decision on the future of some other players at the club. The first one in that list is Federico Macheda.

Macheda has not spent too much time at United in the last couple of seasons. He has been playing for different clubs on loan, but, still, the Manchester United supporters wouldn’t have forgot him.  He had made his mark by putting up some fine performances for United between 2009 and 2011 and had become a popular figure among the fans.

United had bought Macheda from Lazio when he was just 16 years of age. He played for the junior team for a couple of years before he was promoted to the first team. He played his first match for the senior team of United against Aston Villa in April 2009.

He didn’t get too many starting opportunities for the first team, but, he made some impressive appearances as substitute.

In the second half of the 2010-11 season, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to place Macheda on loan to Sampdoria. That was a good opportunity for the Italian striker to show his capabilities as he was going to get regular playing chances at Sampdoria. But, Macheda couldn’t do that. He proved to be a big flop at Sampdoria and didn’t manage to score even 1 goal in 14 appearances. That loan spell was the beginning of the downfall of Macheda.

Macheda spent the last season playing on loan for Queens Park Rangers and Stuttgart, but, he didn’t have a good time at either of those clubs.

There is a good possibility that David Moyes would be looking to offload Macheda this summer. But, if he doesn’t manage to do that, he should try to place him on loan to a low profile Premier League side where he can get playing chances regularly. That’s the only way; he can bring the career of Italian youngster on track.
